Setting up a group to take the BEACON in parts
The BEACON is most powerful when it is taken by a group, such as the members involved in a multisector collaboration improving conditions so that everyone in the community can thrive. The different perspectives brought by each individual help to identify opportunities for the group to work more effectively and adopt new practices to achieve equity goals.
Steps to launch the BEACON with your group
Only one person, the group leader, needs to follow these steps. The rest of the group members will get links that will take them directly to the relevant section of the assessment for their group, and their results will be automatically associated with the group. After the assessment window closes (typically 1 week); the group leader will receive a report summarizing the group's responses which the leader can share with the rest of the group.
1. Select group members
Identify who in your collaboration will be invited to take the assessment. This might include all members of your collaborative, members of your steering committee or sub-committees, community partners, and/or community members, including people with lived experience of inequities.

2. Create your group
As the assessment leader, you will provide some basic information (like the name of the Collaboration) and your contact information to receive the summary report. Use the buttons at the bottom of this page to start the process for each section. Since the whole assessment is lengthy, it is easier for people to take it in sections. Each button kicks off the process for a different section, and you will receive a web link (URL) to distribute to your group members for that section. Copy the link directly using "Copy Link" and share that link. Don't click on it and try to cut and paste from your browser URL bar, it won't work for others. For "Business Name" use the name of your collaborative; for "Subject" use "BEACON Section " + the section number you are taking + the name of your collaborative.
3. Distribute invitations
You can distribute your invitation links via email, the department newsletter, the sign-on message on your computer system, etc. You will probably want to send 3 messages: on the day you set up the assessment; a reminder after several days; and a final reminder the day before the responses are due. (You may need to adapt the schedule for weekends.)

4. Schedule and conduct follow-up
After a week, you should receive a summary report showing the combined results of your group members for that section. To learn more about the followup, visit the Act page.
